Abstract

The article reveals the values that are actualized in educational texts in the discipline "Oral and written speech practice" for the first year of training in the specialty "Modern foreign languages". Their comparative analysis with the students’ values included in the concept of "happiness" is carried out. The similarity in the hierarchy of values in the linguistic picture of the world of students and in the educational texts offered for study has been revealed. Values such as security, hedonism, stimulation, self-direction are of paramount importance. Less important are universalism, power, conformity. The differences were revealed in the quantitative representation of the values of benevolence and tradition. The value of benevolence is more important in learners' understanding of happiness, while it is significantly less represented in educational texts. The value of tradition, on the contrary, has a much greater objectification in the educational texts.
