Abstract

The article describes the design of an apparatus and method of its two settings for sharpening the cutting edge of the chipping helical
blade, 300 mm in length, used by the woodworking enterprises of the Republic of Belarus for the production of wood chips. The theoretical
analysis of the methods for setting the extreme and mid-point of the cutting edge of the blade showed that the grinding accuracy of 0.07 mm
along the length of the knife when the permissible error is 0.2 mm. The analysis showed that the sharpening on the midpoint of the cutting
edge of the blade is more favorable from the standpoint of the knife performance durability. Therefore, the method based on the midpoint
of the sharpened blade helical blade can be recommended for both the companies producing and using helical blades.
