Abstract

Several samples of tool steel provided by the Russian firm OOO “Inplast” (Volgodonsk) were studied in order to identify
optimal modes of magnetic-pulse processing (MPP) for each kind of steel, aimed for manufacture of chipper knives which are used in
the production of industrial chips. The research results show that MPP under certain conditions has a significant influence on the
microstructure of all studied steel samples. A finely dispersed, homogeneous layer depth from 50 to 250 μm with high microhardness
appears on the surface of the samples. The optimal processing modes are identified for different kinds of steel.
