Abstract

In order to increase the wear resistance of complex profile knives for cutting sugar beet, a new method of
magnetic-pulse treatment is applied. Their successful tests were carried out in production conditions at the Open joint
stock company “Skidelsky sugar factory”. Metallographic and durometric studies of knife specimens after combined
magnetic-pulse processing and tests showed that this method allowed to increase 1.8 times the period of durability of
the surface layer by improving its microstructure.
