Abstract

The article discusses the conceptual constructs of religiosity by G. W. Allport and J. M. Ross, primarily
their methodological developments in the field of religious orientation research. The authors note that at a certain
stage in the development of the psychology of religion, this approach, which differentiates religiosity into
“internal” and “external,” justified itself, giving an instrumental and methodological opportunity to study
religiosity. However, at the same time, many psychologists (L. A. Kirkpatrick, R. W. Hood and others) criticized
this approach for the excessive reductionism of the phenomenon of personal religiosity, as well as the ambiguity
and uncertainty of the conceptual-categorial apparatus.
