Abstract

This article is about the linguistic and cultural specifics of the representation of time in contemporary
American poetry. The object of the given research is represented by the category of temporality in the American
poetic text. The subject of this research is the grammatical and lexical means of expressing temporality in the
American poetry of the 21st century. The specificity of poetry as a special type of authentic text is defined. By
means of component analysis and quantitative analysis the most productive language means of expressing
temporality in modern American poetry are discovered. On the basis of the results obtained the conclusion is drawn
on nationally-specific approaches to expressing the category of temporality in the poetic text, which can be
observed in the creativity of all the contemporary American poets represented in the given selection. The
synchronic cross-section of semantic and structural organization of the functional-semantic field of temporality in
the American poetry of the 21st century has been carried out.
