Abstract

The article highlights the problem of the motive of orphanhood in contemporary prose on the basis of H. Marchuk’s, U. Yahovdzik’s and U. Lipskiy’s works. The depiction of orphans is given, plot lines and genre forms are characterised  from the point of view of fiction and non-fiction, the attributes of a "difficult" childhood are defined as well as the spiritual formation of a literary character is analysed.
