Abstract

The article presents the results of a study of the thinking of adults who prefer different sign systems for encoding information
(traditional or printed and modern or digital). The study was organized in a combined design, namely: a quasi-experiment according to
the ex-post-factum scheme (readers and active Internet users), carried out inside cross sections (“pre-digital” person and modern young
person). For the diagnosis of thinking, the “Essential Features” technique was used, which allows assessing the logic and arbitrariness of
reasoning. The results are presented illustrating the decrease in indicators of logic and stability of thinking in active adult Internet users,
even to a greater extent than in young Internet users. It has been established that the correctness of the logical thinking of modern readers
corresponds to pre-digital standards, and adult active Internet users are significantly lower than these standards.
