Abstract

The article considers the motivation of students as a factor and a driving force for studying in a higher educational institution.
Based on the analysis of scientific sources, the essential characteristics of the phenomenon of motivation in the conditions of training
in the system of higher education of the Republic of Belarus are revealed. The definitions related to the motives and motivation for
learning are formulated, as well as the essential characteristics and constituent components of the phenomenon of motivation for
learning in the conditions of a higher education institution. The factors and reasons for the violation of motivational components
in educational, cognitive, social and socially significant activities during training in a higher education institution are characterized.
The motives and motivation to study in a higher education institution are disclosed in terms of their content and structure. The characteristic
is given to a number of conditions under which an adequate motivation for educational, cognitive, professional and scientific
activities is formed.
