SCIENTIFIC APPROACHES TO STUDY THE PERSON’S IMAGE

Abstract

The article deals with the prevailing approaches to study the person’s image in modern psychology. It’s paid
attention to the lack of unity of the theoretical and methodological grounds and the interpretation of the concept “the
person’s image”. It’s pointed out that the concept “meaningful Another” is widely used in the analysis of the
phenomenon “the person’s image”. The principle of the empirical research of the person’s image is staging: the
detection of the degree of significance of the person under consideration to the respondent; the determination of the
possibility to use universal techniques and / or the necessity to elaborate specialized methods to research the person’s
image; the description of the studied phenomenon and its structure exposure. The emphasis is given to a wide range of
methods which are used in modern psychology to research the person’s image. The advisability of the development of
specialized techniques aimed at studying the images of the representatives of particular professions is noted.
