Abstract

The article discusses the peculiarities of parent-child relationship in the families where children are
overweight and the differences from the families with children whose weight is a norm. The results of the research of
parent-child relationship styles, parents’ personality characteristics which determine the choice of the style of
behaviour with a child are presented. Children’s representations of the peculiarities of parent-child relationship have
been revealed. The images of “a thin child” and “a plump child” in the parents’ minds and the connection of the
child’s image with its body weight are described. The psychological portrait of the family with an overweight child is
made. It was found that the problems of overweight are connected with the peculiarities of parent-child relationship.
