communication” from the positions of communicative linguistics. The paper considers a way to use the model of
pedagogical discourse in a foreign language class in a higher educational institution aimed at students’, future foreign
language teachers’, intercultural training. The grounds, main typological features and characteristics of pedagogical
discourse are singled out in the indicated didactic conditions. A classification of communicative strategies and ways of
implementing the teacher’s tactics of verbal behaviour in English are proposed. The peculiarity of this typology is the
consideration of the level of complexity of mental processes carried out by students. As an example of the pedagogical
discourse design, the author’s course book is used. Its analysis made it possible to present a variety of techniques used
in the educational process. It is recommended to use the model of pedagogical discourse for the development of
teaching aids in order to prepare students for verbal communication in a foreign language, intercultural communication
