Abstract

The article discusses various approaches to the definition of the concept “local self-government’’ based on analysis of national
and international legislation, including the European Charter of local self-government. The state of local self-government in the Republic
of Belarus and its features are analyzed.

The activity of local self-government system, including representative bodies — local councils of deputies — are considered.
Some basic directions of improvement of local self-government in the Republic of Belarus are suggested.
