Abstract

After the gradual accession of the Uniates towards the Russian Orthodox Church, Orthodoxy becomes the most mass religious confession on the Belarusian land during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The policy of the Russian Empire contributed to significant strengthening of the positions of Orthodoxy. This policy was aimed at improving the material condition and life of the clergy, disseminating of religious literature and texts of the Holy Scripture through the Russian Bible Society, reviving of church brotherhoods, increasing of the number of parochial schools, creating of charitable organizations, etc. The aim of the research is to comprehend the main directions of the Russian government’s policy towards the Orthodox faith in Belarus at the end of the 18th — early 20th centuries. Based on the conducted studies, the church policy was analyzed during the reign of Paul I to Nicholas II.
