Abstract

Until recently, in the domestic educational and scientific literature, the class-formation approach to the typology of state and law was considered the dominant and the only correct one. Meanwhile, the world political and legal thought has developed other concepts of types of state and law. The civilization approach has been widely recognized in the Western academic literature: it is based on the idea of the relationship between the state and the socio-economic system, taking into account both the nation’s spiritual and moral foundations, and the cultural factors of social development. In this regard, it is reasonable to assume that a truly scientific insight into the essence of state and law is possible with a combination of formational and civilization approaches to their typology.
