Abstract

The article describes and analyses the activities of the military ministry of the Russian Empire on the organization of the functioning of local military authorities in the Grodno province in 1802—1863. The relevance of research is determined by lack of works in the Belarusian historiography which are devoted to the creation and activities of military authorities in the Grodno province, the significance of local military administration in the defense system of the Russian Empire. The article defines the goals and objectives to be solved when creating local military authorities in the annexed Belarusian lands, shows the processes of formation, legislative registration of these structures in the system of military control of the empire. The staffing structure, recruitment procedure, functional responsibilities of officials of the local military administration of the Grodno province are characterized and analyzed. The functions inherent in the local military authorities, which were carried out in the province by the 1st Army field bodies, are determined. The author has revealed the common and specific features of the formation and activities of local military authorities in the province in comparison with internal Russian provinces in 1802—1863. The research results can be used in training courses on the history of Belarus and military history.
