Abstract

In Belarusian historiographical tradition, the topics reflecting the peculiarities of the formation of foreign Belarusian studies in Western European scientific community are not yet sufficiently represented. Research and analysis of sources show that in the leading countries of Western Europe (Great Britain, Germany, France) there is a gradual origin and formation of traditions of scientific Belarusian studies. Western researchers focused mainly on aspects of the political history of Belarus, peculiarities of its cultural development, identification of the role and place of Belarusian culture in the Eastern Slavic world and Eastern European societies. Today, a certain historiographical tradition has been formed in the study of this problem. However, many of its aspects did not become an area of research interest. Such aspects include the comparative analysis of the formation of the Belarusian studies in these countries, and in this context it is considered for the first time. The authors’ preliminary work on the study of the genesis and formation of Belarusian studies in a specific cross-cultural aspect (in Great Britain, Germany and France specifically) makes it possible to implement the indicated problem on a specific source and historiographical foundation.
