Abstract

This article is devoted to the research of the influence of the school of the philosophical stoicism on the political
conception “Universal history” by Polybius. The inconsistency in opinion of scientists according the time of the
historian’s first meeting with the elements of this philosophical doctrine is mentioned. Special attention is paid to the
biological approach to the state, political cycle studies and the theory of mixed constitution. Also, the state system of the
Rome republic within the framework of the political conception of Polybius is considered. It is pointed out the influence
of moral degradation of the Rome’s citizens on the future of the state.
