Abstract

N. N. Lyubovich was a well-known Russian historian at one time, professor of the Russian Imperial University of
Warsaw, engaged in general history, historical Slavic studies and Polon studies. The article is devoted to the problems of
relations between the Germanic world and the Slavs in the XIII—XVI centuries in the work of the named historian. N. N.
Lyubovich considered these relations in the compromise scheme of the doctrines of the Russian conservative historiography of
the Slavophile orientation and the liberal Westernizing historiography of the general confrontation between the two worlds. The
evaluative approach of N. N. Lyubovich to the stated problems is considered by the author of the article against a comparative
background of general assessments of the modern scientist of Russian historiography. This issue in the historical heritage of N.
N. Lyubovich did not become the subject of separate studies and is considered in this context for the first time.
