Abstract

The article analyzes the methods of historical research that are most suitable for studying the educational travels of the
nobility of the 16th—18th centuries on the example of the preserved teaching instructions and the travel diary of Jakub
Sobieski — statesman and military leader of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, father of the King of the Polish-Lithuanian
Commonwealth Jan III Sobieski. The main attention is paid to special historical and interdisciplinary methods, including
narrative, historical genetic, historical comparative methods and content analysis. With the help of these methods, the foreign
education of Jakub Sobieski, his geography, features and influence on the career of a nobleman are examined.
