Abstract

The article examines the socio-political, theoretical and methodological conditions that had a significant impact on
the development of Belarusian historiography in the 90s of the XX century in general and the history of the Polish-
Lithuanian Commonwealth in particular. The article presents important political changes of the 90s of the twentieth century
that influenced the formation and development of Belarusian historical science, and identifies a number of topical issues that
interested domestic researchers. The main approaches to the problem of the development and renewal of historical science
are considered: Marxist or conservative-dogmatic, national-patriotic and critical. The significant contribution of individual
Belarusian historians to the process of studying the history of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was noted.
