Abstract

This article examines the main positions of specialists in the field of Slavic ethnogenesis in the context of the problem of determining the essence of the Slavic ancestral ethnic group, promulgated in scientific works published at the end of the 20th — beginning of the 21st centuries. The following aspects are analyzed: the meaning of the term “Slavic ancestral ethnic group”, the peculiarities of understanding the essence of the Slavic ancestral ethnic group by representatives of various sciences, within the framework of which studies of Slavic ethnogenesis are carried out. The author's position on this issue is presented.
