Post-Revolutionary historiography of the problem of proof of nobility in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania

Abstract

The article examines the post-revolutionary historiography of the issue of proof of nobility in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (GDL). The main attention is paid to the analysis of historiographical works highlighting the procedures, legal regulation and social significance of proof of nobility. The study of pre-revolutionary and Soviet studies in comparison with modern works on the history of the USSR made it possible to identify achievements and shortcomings in the study of gentry issues. The article also identifies the main methodological approaches used in the research of this problem and sheds light on the insufficiently disclosed aspects of the proof of nobility as a social phenomenon in historiography.
