PUBLIC LAW MEASURES TO STRENGTHEN A MARRIAGE:ANALYSIS OF THE LEGISLATION OF THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS

Abstract

The family is a social institution that plays a significant role both in the life of each individual and in the life of
the whole society. Traditionally, the family is based on a marriage union between a man and a woman. And it is the
society that is interested in the strength of marriage. A strong marriage builds healthy family relationships and helps
improve the family status in society. Despite a wide range of measures aimed at strengthening the institution of
marriage, provided for by the legislation of the Republic of Belarus, the statistical data demonstrate high divorce rates.
Therefore, a theoretical understanding of measures taken by the state to strengthen the institution of marriage shall be
developed and their effectiveness shall be determined. The article analyses the public law measures aimed at
strengthening a marriage and applied before the marriage, during the period of marriage, and during the period of
divorce. The author has revealed the least effective measures and proposed measures to improve the current marriage
and family legislation.
